Miguel Maysonet has yet to step on the field at the Philadelphia Eagles‘ Novacare Complex and on Monday as was expected, the rookie free agent running back out of Stony Brook was released by the team.
The Eagles officially announced the move on Monday morning after signing rookie free agent tight end Will Shaw from Youngstown University to take Maysonet’s spot on the team’s 90-man roster.
Per the NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement, Maysonet was not allowed to participate in the Eagles OTA’s because Stony Brook has yet to graduate. However, all signs point to Maysonet being caught up in a numbers game after the team signed veteran running back Felix Jones last week.
It appears that the battle for carries behind LeSean McCoy will not come down to Jones, second-year man Bryce Brown, Chris Polk and rookie free agent Matthew Tucker.
Meanwhile, Shaw will compete for a roster spot among a crowded crop of tight ends. Brent Celek, James Casey, second-round draft choice Zach Ertz figure to be steady contributors to Chip Kelly‘s tight end-heavy offense, and Clay Harbor remains on the roster.
At Youngstown, Shaw posted 429 yards and five touchdowns in his senior season.
