Kansas City Chiefs fans have been through a rough ride in the last few years, but is this the year they become a serious contender and possibly go deep into the playoffs?
Over the last few years, Chiefs fans have seen limited results despite having a very talented roster. They have only made the playoffs once since 2007, and that playoff berth came in their 2010 season when they finished first in their division with a 10-6 record. Chiefs fans thought that they could finally have a winning team, but those thoughts were quickly shutdown once they finished with a 7-9 record in the following season.
2012 was one of the worst seasons in Chiefs history as they finished with a league worst 2-14 record which gave them the first overall pick in the draft. The Chiefs took offensive tackle Eric Fisher with their first round pick who is a great addition to the team and will add to an already talented offensive line. The Chiefs have gone through a complete overhaul this offseason and have brought in some great additions. Some of those include trading for quarterback Alex Smith and the hiring of veteran head coach Andy Reid. The addition of Smith and Reid should make a huge difference for the Chiefs in 2013. Reid is a veteran head coach with plenty of experience, and Smith was one of the most efficient passers in the NFL last season before getting hurt.
On paper the Chiefs have everything they need to be successful. They have solid weapons on offense, such as receiver Dwayne Bowe and running back Jamaal Charles. On the other side of the ball they have a talented linebacker corps and a solid secondary that includes standout safety Eric Berry.
So you could say that the 2013 Chiefs roster is one of the best when comparing it to the previous years. If everyone stays healthy they could become a serious threat in the playoffs. With that being said, you can’t always rely on how good a team looks on paper as we have seen many teams with stacked rosters fail horribly before. Only time will tell if the Chiefs have finally solved their problems.
