After years of awkwardness the Green Bay Packers are beginning the process of reuniting the infamous Brett Favre and the organization that made his no. 4 legendary. Sure, it’s kind of hard to welcome the Wranglers’ spokesperson back with open arms considering he bolted for the Minnesota Vikings, yet the NFL is a place where second chances are offered daily.

I have an incredible amount of respect for Aaron Rodgers and how well he has handled everything that he has been forced to endure during his professional career — this guy even took his draft day plummet with the utmost class. Geno Smith could have learned a lesson or two from Rodgers who slipped to 24 in the 2005 NFL Draft after being a projected top-five pick.

If that debacle wasn’t enough, Rodgers had to sit behind the arrogant Favre for three grueling seasons. Despite the welcoming, country-boy image Favre portrays, he is a stout competitor at heart who didn’t take kindly to the organization drafting some kid from California to take his spot. In today’s day and age it’s rare to find a player with the kind of patience and class that Rodgers maintains. Alex Smith sat and took his lumps with the San Francisco 49ers this season, but even he asked for a trade this offseason.

Rodgers said that it’s time for the “healing process to begin” between the Packers and Favre. In addition, Green Bay’s current gunslinger wants the team to retire Favre’s number before he is elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

It takes a true champion to take the lumps that Rodgers has taken, but the way he continues to handle the speed bumps with such class is nothing short of amazing.
