Analyzing Cleveland Browns’ 2013 NFL Win Totals, Other Odds
An offseason that saw them seriously bolster their defense in moving to the 3-4 while adding needed depth at the quarterback position has apparently swayed Vegas quite little. The Browns are receiving 125-to-1 Super Bowl odds from Vegas according to RJ Bell of Pregame.com, tied for fourth-worst in the league and sitting well behind the New York Jets at 100-to-1 — only ahead of the Oakland Raiders, Arizona Cardinals and Jacksonville Jaguars.
Now, I’m not saying go out there thinking the Cleve has any shot at all of winning the Super Bowl in 2012, no matter how good Brian Hoyer may or may not end up becoming after eventually leap-frogging Jason Campbell and Brandon Weeden on the quarterback depth chart. The focus here is that this has translated to a season win total of six, or only one more game than Cleveland won with a rookie Weeden starting under center.
This also seems rather low for a squad that has greatly catalyzed a smooth transition to a 3-4 base defense in signing edge-rushing outside linebacker Paul Kruger and defensive lineman Desmond Bryant. Couple that with Josh Gordon and Trent Richardson emerging from their rookie years, and this team is exhibiting signs of a win increase in 2013 — not enough to hit the division title odds at +2500 — but just marginal enough to possibly bump them up to 7-9.
