As the New Orleans Saints move through OTAs and closer to training camp, RantSports.com will be bringing you player profiles for many of the team’s players. We’ll focus mainly on new acquisitions, and on those players who will be on the roster bubble. In this installment for the Saints, we’ll take a look at 2012 fourth round draft pick Nick Toon.
The speedy wide receiver’s rookie season ended before it began last year due to a foot injury, but he’s back and ready to go in 2013. Toon was a standout at the University of Wisconsin over four seasons, capping it off with an impressive senior year of 926 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns in 2011.
He’s arguably the best wide receiver prospect the Saints have, and there should be many more opportunities for him this year with the departure of Devery Henderson. At the same time, WR Joe Morgan is now facing DUI charges, and who knows what the future holds for him.
Toon is a receiver who just needs an chance on this Saints’ team. He’s more than capable of filling the role of No. 3 or 4 receiver on the team, behind Lance Moore and Marques Colston. Toon will be one of the most intruiguing Saints’ players to watch come training camp, as it seems things are wide open after the top two wide outs. The talent is there with the second-year player, now it’s just a matter of working him into the rotation, and getting on the same page with Drew Brees.
