We have a new JaMarcus Russell rumor and no, it’s not something related to his downfall from formerly being the No. 1 pick in the 2007 NFL Draft.
It appears that Russell is working harder than ever in his bid to return to the NFL and that hard work may just be paying off in terms of his professional interest. According to NFL.com‘s Ian Rapoport, more than one team is expressing interest in Russell at this point, but it remains to be seen what his timetable is from here or who the teams are.
Russell has dealt with a number of issues, both on and off the field since being drafted in 2007 and there’s no doubt that he has been forced to carry the label as NFL Draft bust ever since leaving football back in 2009. The Oakland Raiders selected Russell with the top overall pick in 2007, hoping that the former LSU star would be their savior and quarterback for the future. That did not happen, but Russell is still hoping he can land a job as a backup here in 2013.
In addition to his bid to woo one team to sign him, Russell has committed to losing weight and getting back into football shape. According to Rapoport, Russell has dropped 50 pounds recently and is looking more of the quality prospect that once garnered the hype that he had coming out of college.
Russell has thrown just over 4,000 yards in his NFL career, totaling 18 touchdowns and 23 interceptions.
