NFL Tennessee Titans

Analyzing Tennessee Titans’ 2013 NFL Win Totals, Other Odds

Don McPeak-USA TODAY Sports

The Tennessee Titans currently sit a distant third when it comes to AFC South division title odds, sitting at +750 behind the Indianapolis Colts at +250 and Houston Texans at -250.

This makes Tennessee especially intriguing as they possess many of the key components of a team that finished with the AFC’s No. 1 seed just four seasons ago. You have Chris Johnson, who should look more CJ2K than in recent years thanks to the investment made in the interior line this offseason with Chance Warmack and Andy Levitre. One of the better offensive line bookends in the game has stuck around for years and continues to play at a high level in Michael Roos and David Stewart.

On the defensive side there are elements key to stopping the pass and harassing the passer in defensive ends Derrick Morgan and Kamerion Wimbley along with cornerback Alterraun Verner and Jason McCourty.

However, I can’t jump on the Titans wagon — for division odds, let alone 110-to-1 Super Bowl odds or 6.5 season win total line — until I see more out of third-year quarterback Jake Locker. The young quarterback just hasn’t been consistently accurate or even close.

With veteran quarterback and erstwhile Titans starter Matt Hasselbeck now out of the picture, Locker is getting more reps in camp and has more certainty about the starting role this offseason, which leads to the crucial increase in familiarity with his offensive weapons. Perhaps this could change that equation.

“Having the opportunity to know that you’re the guy going into the year and get those extra reps and be able to see that many more plays from the pocket is a huge difference,” Locker said, via the team’s website.
