Pittsburgh Steelers RT Mike Adams Should Have Been Smarter During Robbery Attempt
This past weekend, Pittsburgh Steelers offensive tackle Mike Adams was stabbed during a robbery attempt in front of his home. Fortunately, the stab wounds to his stomach and forearm didn’t puncture any major organs, but surgery was required. The second-year pro should be back in time for the start of training camp this summer.
According to Eric Metz, Adams’ agent, three men tried to rob Adams of his truck. One of the suspects held a gun to Adams’ face, and shortly after one of the other men stabbed Adams. Even after being stabbed, he went after the assailants, not knowing that he was wounded.
After the news broke and being treated at a nearby hospital, Adams tweeted:
“I had an angel lookin out for me! Ill be ok just gotta fight to get back harder than ever”
First of all, I’d like to say that I’m happy that Adams will be able to pull through this unfortunate incident. More importantly, it’s good to know that not only his career, but also his life isn’t in jeopardy after this episode.
However, even though things ended on a positive note, I do think that the actions of Adams during this event were wrong and not smart.
I totally understand that no one wants their possessions taken away from them, but no material thing is worth risking your life. What baffles me the most is that Adams was not only outnumbered, but was also held at gunpoint, and despite those circumstances, he still went after the three men.
Even at 6-foot-7, 323-pounds, a gun and/or knife can still take you out. There are some instances in life when you can stand up to protect what’s yours, and there are other instances where you have to look at the bigger picture and just step aside. I don’t know about you, but from my point of view, this was one of those situations where you have to value your life over a vehicle.
Maybe Adams was trying to prove that he wasn’t a “punk” and didn’t want anyone to think any less of him had he decided to just give up his truck without a fight. Maybe Adams thought because of his big stature that he could take on all three of the suspects. Maybe he felt that since he plays for the Steelers that he was made of steel.
Well, only Adams knows why he decided to stand up to those three men. I just hope that this experience is an educational one for Adams and for anyone who reads this. There is no material object on the face of this earth worth more than your life.
