Philadelphia Eagles Open Mandatory Minicamp with Full House
All present, and all accounted for.
That was the message that opened the Philadelphia Eagles‘ mandatory minicamp, which takes place this week at the Novacare Complex in South Philadelphia.
After nearly a month of voluntary OTA’s, the NFL kicks off it’s mandatory minicamps across the league this week. There were several members of the Eagles that took advantage of the ‘voluntary’ tag that goes along with the Organized Team Activities: Cary Williams and Jason Peters both had missed their share of time in recent weeks, but each were present and accounted for when the team kicked off the mandatory portion of its offseason schedule.
Williams missed more time than he actually attended of Chip Kelly‘s first spring practice session for various reasons. The newly-signed cornerback, who is expected to man the top spot on the depth chart, sat out practices and workouts because of his marriage and ensuing honeymoon, elective dental work, building of his house and most recently his daughter’s recital last Friday.
This week, Williams chose to be in Philadelphia rather than join his former Baltimore Ravens teammates at the White House, where they are being recognized for winning the Lombardi Trophy last season.
Meanwhile Peters, who missed all of last season with a double ruptured Achilles tendon and skipped out on the last two weeks for reasons unreleased to the media, also is in the building to begin this week.
The only players missing from the start of mandatory camp are defensive tackle Isaac Sopoaga (death in the family), and rookies Zach Ertz and Jordan Poyer, who are not allowed to attend under conditions of the collective bargaining agreement because their graduation has not yet taken place.
After having players miss time over the last month, Kelly surely will be pleased with this turnout as it is his last chance to have a full squad assembled before training camp kicks off in six weeks.
