According to Brian Costello of the New York Post, “Ben Obomanu is now wearing No.15″. Wasn’t this jersey number suppose to be in the trash can for the New York Jets? Why is Obomanu wearing that number? I feel like the Jets organization will never be able to get away from the Tim Tebow fiasco.
With Obomanu being the offensive weapon that replaced now-retired quarterback David Garrard, this is not a good omen for his production right? When I think of a wide receiver, I don’t want to think of Tebow in any shape or form.
Obomanu has not had a 1000-plus yard season or double digit in touchdowns since he was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks. His most productive season was when he tallied 494 yards in receptions and pulled down four touchdowns in 2010. Last season was his least productive with 58 yards, one touchdown and only eight games played.
If I was Obomanu, I would ask for a different jersey.
Wouldn’t you? Who would want to have the jersey number of a player who brought a circus to the team a season before you came in? Obomanu need as potent a good luck charm as he can get to perform well this season for the Jets. With the WR core of Stephen Hill and Santonio Holmes still nursing injuries, this is now-or-never for him to show the coaching staff that he can produce.
A word of advice Obomanu: request a new number for your jersey — we don’t like no. 15 in New York anymore.
