Bill Belichick is infuriated at the report from Yahoo! Sports released just under a month ago that said he “hates” Tim Tebow as a player. It took nearly a month for the New England Patriots head coach to bash the report he calls “completely untrue” and “baseless.”
“I wouldn’t get into the probability of us pursuing any free agent,” Belichick told Field Yates of ESPNBoston.com. “Every single player has strengths and weaknesses but regardless of that, for anyone to have represented that is the way I feel about Tim Tebow is completely untrue, baseless and irresponsible. It is unfortunate that something so inaccurate was reported.”
Mike Silver of Yahoo! Sports cited “organizational sources” in his report four weeks ago as he alleged the Patriots “wouldn’t’ like the circus that comes with Tebow” being on the roster.
Belichick vehemently denies any notion that he despises Tebow as a player. Regardless, it is intriguing that Belichick even responded to the question so openly. Belichick is famous for dodging questions asked by the media, so a direct response from him is almost unheard of.
Earlier in the offseason, there was speculation that Tebow may land with the Patriots. Tebow has some connections to the Patriots’ organization as Belichick had him in for a pre-draft visit in 2010. In addition, offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels drafted Tim Tebow when he was the head coach of the Denver Broncos.
Does Belichick’s support of Tebow mean the Patriots have any interest in signing the free agent? Probably not, considering the incessant media attention that Tebow brings to any team he plays for. Then again, there is no telling what Belichick has in store for his team.
