Normally, the Pittsburgh Steelers are considered one of the top teams to beat in the AFC, but they’re coming off a 2013 season in which they finished with a disappointing 8-8 record–missing out on the playoffs for the first time since the 2009 season. Unfortunately, the AFC North will be one of the toughest divisions in football once again as the Cincinnati Bengals and Baltimore Ravens are expected to be two of the top teams in the AFC once again and while the Steelers could be right up there with them, the only way that’s going to have any chance of happening is if Ben Roethlisberger has a monster season.

Even though he’s considered one of the league’s top quarterbacks, the argument can be made that Roethlisberger doesn’t always receive the credit he deserves as he’s been the heart and soul of the Steelers’ offense throughout his entire career. In fact, when taking a closer look at Roethlisberger over the years, you can even say that no quarterback takes more hits in the pocket than Big Ben and it’s amazing how there are times when he still manages to get the ball to his receivers when it looks like he’s about to get the sack.

It certainly won’t be easy for the Steelers to be strong contenders in the AFC next season with all of the changes made during the offseason, but with a quarterback like Roethlisberger calling the shots–the potential is always going to be there. There’s a reason why Big Ben has been considered one of the league’s top quarterbacks over the years and as long as he stays healthy–expect him to have a monster season in 2013.
