From parting ways with Wes Welker to bringing Danny Amendola on board, the 2013 NFL offseason has certainly been an interesting one for the New England Patriots as they look to be one of the top contenders in the AFC once again next year. With the type of weapons they have, there’s no reason why the Patriots shouldn’t be considered the favorites to win the AFC East once again, but unfortunately–things may not be easy if they have to adjust to life without Rob Gronkowski.

The star pass-catching tight end has already been dealing with the recovery process surrounding his forearm and now it’s his back that may be the next thing for the team to be concerned about as Gronkowski is scheduled to have surgery for his back on Tuesday. While there’s no official timetable for his return, this is the last thing New England needs to be dealing with this offseason and they should be concerned over Gronkowski’s status for the upcoming season.

Gronkowski obviously had trouble staying healthy last season and even though there’s still plenty of time before the Patriots will have to worry about whether or not he’ll be ready for Week 1–back surgery is more serious than most injuries. It’s clear how important Gronkowski has been to New England in the passing game over the last couple of years and if this upcoming surgery has any complications–it may be time for the Patriots to be concerned about their star tight end.
