When it comes to the Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers, there’s always going to be tension when a player leaves one team for the other. It’s happened many times over the years, and it usually seems to be guys going from green to purple. The most recent guy to jump ship is Greg Jennings, who signed with the Vikings as an unrestricted free agent this past March. Since Jennings’ arrival in Minneapolis, there’s been a little back and forth going on between the receiver and his former quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
It all started when Rodgers said, ‘who?’ when asked about Jennings shortly after he signed in Minnesota – and then the receiver fired back with a, ‘the guy they have now’ comment, when talking about Rodgers. Fans everywhere have since started reading into these remarks, so Jennings recently clarified that all of the comments have been made in a joking manner.
“I have no ill feelings for anyone over there. We’re just back and forth. (Rodgers) jokes. I joke.”
So now it’s just a matter of whether or not you believe Jennings. I for one, do. At the same time, I’m sure there’s a little animosity between the two, because they’re now rivals. The Packers didn’t ‘need’ Greg Jennings anymore, but you can bet that Rodgers would still love to have him on the roster.
The back and forth jokes should just be viewed as entertainment for Vikings’ and Packers’ fans, as no real rivalry will ever develop between the two. All indications are that they were friends in Green Bay, and odds are, they’ll probably end up being friends again someday. In the meantime, though, these guys are going to be competing for the same prize, so fans shouldn’t expect any pleasantries to be exchanged.
