David Wilson celebrates a touchdown

When talking about the New York Giantsfranchise, the name Tiki Barber is used as a high-water mark to all Giants running backs. So, when Barber opens his mouth about the future of the New York running backs, you listen.

Barber isn’t one to throw out accolades left and right, which makes his ringing endorsement of sophomore David Wilson even more impressive. Here is a blip that shows just how excited Barber is to see Wilson perform at a high level in 2013:

“He is as dynamic a player at that position that the Giants have ever had.”

Considering the plethora of backs that the Giants have featured in years prior, Barber is really going out on a limb here. Not to mention, Ahmad Bradshaw was a two-time 1,000-yard rusher during his six-year tenure with NY and was incredibly dynamic from 2007-12. I understand Barber’s excitement and agree with the high expectations, but Wilson still has a lot to prove on the gridiron before we start calling him an NFL great.

One thing is for certain: Wilson has little to no competition this season. After filling in for and battling with Bradshaw last year, Wilson is being thrown the starting job and must take advantage of the rare opportunity. The most impressive stat coming from Wilson’s 2012 campaign is the uncanny five yards per carry that he posted last year. This is a tally that should give any Giants fan excitement considering Bradshaw’s YPC was just 4.6.

Wilson enters this fall with a vote of confidence from Barber and endless opportunities — what could possibly go wrong?
