Aaron Hernandez and the 27 NFL Players Arrested Since the Super Bowl
27 NFL Players Arrested Since Super Bowl
On Wednesday morning, Massachusetts State Police showed up at the door of New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez, arresting him in connection to the murder investigation of 27-year old semi-pro football player, Odin Lloyd. After a morning and afternoon of speculation, Hernandez was arraigned at Attleborough District Court in Massachusetts and formally charged with first-degree murder and five gun charges.
In all, Hernandez became the 27th NFL player arrested since the Super Bowl. That's right -- 27!
While Hernandez is the most high-profiled of them, not just from an NFL standpoint, but also a legal one, the amount of arrests that have highlighted this off-season is simply unbelievable. The off-season can be seen as a dangerous time for some superstars, but come on now.
Hernandez was subsequently released by the Patriots just hours after his arrest and prior to his formally being charged with murder. Jerseys and merchandise sales in New England and throughout the NFL have been pulled in connection to Hernandez's involvement and at this point things certainly aren't looking good for the former tight end. Hernandez signed a five-year, $40 million contract extension just last summer, only to simply -- throw it away.
In addition to Hernandez however, here are all 27 NFL stars who have been arrested since the conclusion of the Super Bowl:
