It’s Time For The Dallas Cowboys To Cut Josh Brent

Dallas Cowboys nose tackle Josh Brent is in trouble again.

Brent has been arrested and is in jail after failing a second drug test in consecutive months. According to court documents, Brent tested positive for marijuana on June 19. The sample was then sent to Redwood Toxicology Laboratory for analysis where the positive marijuana test was confirmed on June 25.

Brent appeared in court on May 24 when questions were raised about his alcohol intake based on the readings from his ankle monitor. The Court then ordered Brent to take a urinalysis test, and the subsequent tests came back positive for marijuana use. Brent’s second failed urinalysis came just two days prior to his planned June 21 bond hearing to examine whether he’d failed the first drug test.

Brent is currently facing intoxication manslaughter charges as he awaits trial in connection with a car crash that killed practice squad linebacker Jerry Brown Jr. on the night of Dec. 8, 2012. Brent is accused of driving with a blood-alcohol content of more than twice the legal limit at the time of the crash. If convicted, Brent faces up to 20 years in prison.

I understand that it was Brown’s mother who requested that the Cowboys be supportive of Brent, but enough is enough. It’s time for the Cowboys to cut Brent, and rid themselves of this failed experiment. His continued use of marijuana expresses a form of conduct that disregards and belittles the court’s and the Cowboys’ authority; It’s time for Brent to go.
