Philadelphia Eagles: Chip Kelly Is Such An Honorable Man -- Not

So, Chip Kelly had to say sorry for breaking recruiting rules. The NCAA Division I Infractions Committee released a statement on Wednesday saying that Kelly and the University of Oregon had failed to monitor the program. The end result was that Oregon received a slap on the wrist. The NCAA took away one scholarship for each of the next three seasons and put the Oregon football program on probation for three years.

Is this really even an issue anymore? This seems to be the norm for most major Division I schools. There is no way in hell that these kids are able to study and attend every class with the workload and preparation they have to do for their sporting program. I say, it’s time to start paying these kids. NCAA players almost get as much publicity as the professionals do thanks en-large part to ESPNBig Ten Channel, etc…

I also heard some fans on local talk radio praising Chip for his honesty. Now, that’s funny. I heard how noble he was by owning up to the issue. Come on, the dude did what most people (“cough” Pete Carroll) would do. He felt the heat and ran to the money. Do you remember that waiting period before the Eagles heard back from Kelly? I think most Philadelphia Eagles fans do. I can guarantee he was waiting to see what was coming down on him from the NCAA. Smart move there Chippy.

I am really not trying to blame the guy or make fun of him. Just don’t make him look honorable or noble. He did what most people would do; he saw the dollar sign and ran from the heat.

Here is part of Chip Kelly’s statement from the Associated Press:

As I have I stated before, the NCAA investigation and subsequent ruling had no impact on my decision to leave Oregon for Philadelphia. I have also maintained throughout that I had every intention to cooperate with the NCAA’s investigation, which I did.

What honor.
