Philadelphia Eagles: Michael Vick Interestingly Ranked 25th Among Starting Quarterbacks
Okay, here we go. Ron Jaworski has ranked Philadelphia Eagles QB Michael Vick as the No. 25 starting quarterbacks in the NFL, let the hating begin. Vick supporters are already out on social media calling “Jaws” a moron and an idiot. One person’s reasoning, “He (Jaws) liked Donovan McNabb and Nick Foles, enough said.” I am not sure what that dude was going for with that one.
So who was Vick ahead of? Only Brandon Weeden (26), Christian Ponder (27), Mark Sanchez (28th), Chad Henne (29th) Kevin Kolb (30th), Jake Locker (31st) and Matt Flynn (32nd). Now, imagine if Jaws ranked Kolb ahead of Vick, the Gates of Hell would have opened in Philadelphia. There were a few that I thought Vick should have been ranked higher than, and they are Ryan Tannehill, Alex Smith, Josh Freeman, Cam Newton and Sam Bradford. That’s just to name a few.
Tannehill is coming off a decent rookie season. To be honest, I wouldn’t put him in front of Vick. With that said, I am not a Vick fan myself, and the same thing goes for Bradford. What has he ever done? The way I remember it, he hasn’t done a single thing. Smith? Well, I can see that for one simple reason, he can manage a game better and have fewer mistakes. Some people don’t like Freeman, but I think the kid is ready to hit his stride this year. With Newton, he has the tools to be an elite quarterback, but he just needs to get his head on straight.
I would have ranked Vick a little higher than 25th, but I am not going too really argue too hard with were Jaws ranked him. Here is what Jaws had to say about Vick from Matt Mullin, sports editor of Philly.com:
Michael Vick checks in at No. 25 in my quarterback rankings. Vick is coming off of a disappointing 2012 season, but all will be different inPhiladelphiawith a new head coach in Chip Kelly. And I’m certain of one thing – Vick is the most talented quarterback on the Eagles’ roster. Vick remains a dynamic player with top-level arm strength and unmatched movement ability to extend plays with his legs. Few can spin it as well as number 7, especially on the run. Kelly will look at Vick and see a multidimensional quarterback that can pressure a defense in a variety of ways
The concern of course, is turnovers. Vick had far too many in 2012. Fifteen of them in 10 games; four of those 15 came in the red zone. Here’s the positive as the Eagles transition to Kelly’s shotgun, spread attack. Vick was outstanding in the two-minute offense last season with a quarterback rating of 98.
