When you inquire about the WR battle going on within the Baltimore Ravens‘ roster, you will hear that Jacoby Jones has the second spot on lock, but there is another Raven in town who will beg to differ. Ladies and gents, get your popcorn ready. There is a Raven on the roster who Joe Flacco hand-picked for Ozzie Newsome to draft; Tandon Doss is the guy I’m speaking of.
Mentioned many times by his teammates and coaches as having the best hands on the roster, Doss is ready for a starting position. All Doss has done within the last three years was work hard and learn behind Anquan Boldin. Going fearlessly across the middle against defenders and running routes with precision is Doss’ forte. Doss was a triple-threat during his tenure at Indiana as a RB, WR and return specialist. He excelled in these roles because of his ball-carrier vision. Moving up the roster has been an uphill battle for the former Hoosier; the politics of Jones being brought in, combined with Boldin still performing at a high level, pushed Doss to the fourth WR slot.
There was a question concerning Doss’ speed, which is the main reason Jones was brought in last season. He managed to work on his speed during this offseason while maintaining his size and ball skills. Now Jones is in for the fight of his life against a more complete player in Doss. Even John Harbaugh is a fan. Garrett Downing of Baltimore Ravens.com reports: ”I just think the world of Tandon,” Harbaugh said. “I think he is really going to be a good player.”
Now that there is a real competition, Doss will do everything he can to outperform Jones, Tommy Streeter, Laquan Williams, Deonte Thompson, Aaron Mellette and David Reed to secure the starting job.
