Baltimore Ravens Training Camp Profile: Tommy Streeter

Are we all ready for another Baltimore Ravens Training Camp Profile? I was hoping you’d say that. If anyone missed my last one on Bobby Rainey, you can read that here. Much like Rainey, the guy I’m spotlighting today, Tommy Streeter, doesn’t have much of a track record, but that’s okay.

Streeter was drafted in the sixth round of the 2012 draft. He played his college ball at the University of Miami, or the “U” for all you hip cats out there. Streeter led the Hurricanes in receptions (46), receiving yards (811) and touchdowns (8). He decided to forego his senior season in favor of the NFL. His first year with the Ravens was spent on the IR because of a foot injury.

Personally, I thought the Ravens placed him on IR because he wasn’t good enough to over take the other receivers and to just kind of stash him away for the future, because the kid has tremendous upside. Streeter is a big bodied kid at 6-foot-5 and a just a shade under 220 pounds, and he has blazing 4.4 speed. On the down side Streeter’s route running leaves much to be desired, which is why most label him as a “project.”

Making the team in 2013 won’t be easy as there’s a lot of competition at the wide receiver spot and because Streeter is a speed guy on a team that already has a few speed guys. Torrey Smith, Jacoby Jones and Tandon Doss are locks to make the squad, leaving probably another three spots open, if that. Streeter will have to compete with Deonte Thompson, Laquan Williams, David Reed and rookie Aaron Mellette.

Streeter will have to stand out from the pack some way, as the Ravens are in need of possession receivers. I think with Streeter’s size he would be a great red zone jump-ball kind of guy, so if he can excel in that area during camp/preseason, then he’s got a shot. If not, he could be just another receiver lost in the shuffle.
