Gregg Williams Getting Sued By Barrett Green, Will Never Escape Bounty Scandal
Recently, any attorney who deals with NFL players or coordinators has made some pretty good cash. While this case doesn’t involve any murderers, Gregg Williams is getting sued by Barrett Green, who says that a hit stemming from Williams’ bounty system ended Green’s playing career in 2004. Injuries happen and as bad as I want Williams to suffer, this is just a ploy for Green to make some money.
Green is a former New York Giants linebacker and never amounted to much at the NFL level. However, the six-year professional will now be infamous for suing the Washington Redskins, Williams and former Redskins Tight End Robert Royal, who landed the apparently devastating hit. I say apparently because, although Green claims that the 2004 hit was “unusual, outrageous and an obvious cheap shot,” the linebacker would suit up the very next weeks and five NFL games after the fact.
The whole “Bounty Scandal” has gotten absolutely out of control and if the judge in this particular case takes Green’s side then the floodgates will be opened to any player who has ever endured a gruesome injury while on the gridiron.
Due to the coincidental timing, this goes down as a classic example of an ex-NFL player trying to make some money. At the end of the day, Williams deserves to be punished if indeed he personally put Royal upto the hit, but the odds of that happening are slim to none — back to the drawing board, Barrett.
