Judging by his first two seasons in the NFL, Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones could be ready to absolutely explode in 2013. With such a potent offense led by quarterback Matt Ryan, Jones undoubtedly came into the best possible situation out of Alabama.
In his rookie season, Jones caught 54 passes for 959 yards and eight touchdowns, playing in 13 games. Last year as a sophomore, Jones hauled in 79 passes for 1,198 yards and 10 touchdowns without a single fumble.
I don’t think this guy gets enough credit for the unbelievable first two years he’s put up with the Falcons. We’ve seen some pretty incredible bursts onto the NFL scene with guys like Randy Moss, Calvin Johnson and even A.J. Green now, but Jones’ first two seasons have been equally as impressive.
What’s incredible, is that Jones is the only guy out of those wideouts to have another Pro Bowl wide receiver on his team in Roddy White. Imagine what he’d do if he was by far and away the number one target — the opportunities would be endless.
In 2013, the Falcons have a lot to prove and have added another running back in Steven Jackson who is likely to take a bit of pressure off the passing game; potentially opening it up even more than the last two years.
With Jones now a year older, wiser and more developed at the professional level and also his quarterback feeling the pressure of a giant monkey on his back, look for this kid to absolutely throttle the stat sheet this year. I am predicting Jones to have his best year yet with closer to 100 catches, 1,300 yards and a good 12-14 touchdowns en route to an easy Pro Bowl selection.
