New England Patriots CB Alfonzo Dennard Claims He Passed Two Breathalyzer Tests
It’s been an off-season to forget for the New England Patriots and earlier this week the news of yet another off-the-field issue surfaced when cornerback Alfonzo Dennard was arrested for a DUI in Lincoln, Nebraska.
This of course comes on the heels of the biggest off-season crime and mess in quite some time, as star New England tight end Aaron Hernandez was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection to the death of Odin Lloyd. While the Patriots have taken pride in creating an environment with no off-the-field issues or mistakes over the years, things have really hit the fan here in 2013.
In turn however, New England has yet to make a decision regarding Dennard and maybe that’s because there could be a niche in the investigation that the Patriots may be waiting to learn more about. Dennard has been arrested twice now over the course of the past 15 months and in fact, he will be heading to jail next March in connection to a charge of assaulting a police officer. Now, with this second arrest, the question has already been discussed — why doesn’t New England just cut ties with the troubled cornerback?
Well, maybe that’s because the Patriots want to learn about Dennard’s side of the story in connection to his DUI charge from earlier this week. Dennard is now claiming that he passed two breathalyzer tests after being stopped by police. The results showed that he was below the legal limit. However, the officer told Dennard that “he hadn’t blown hard enough, thus the did not comply designation.” This information was made public by a series of tweets from the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
I guess we will have to wait for a few more details before we judge Dennard and the Patriots’ decision making regarding this latest off-the-field issue.
