The Indianapolis Colts are hoping tight end Dwayne Allen will be able to build off his outstanding rookie season and take his game to the next level. There is no question Allen has the potential to become a top-notch tight end in the AFC. Now, the question is will he be able to do it in 2013.
Allen hauled in 45 receptions for 521 yards and three touchdowns in 16 regular season games in 2012. He really showed up in the Colts’ playoff game against the Baltimore Ravens, which is why fans believe he could be the real deal. Allen caught four passes for 51 yards and three first downs in the 24-9 loss.
The 23-year-old has certainly shown he has what it takes to be selected to the Pro Bowl in 2013, as long as he stays hungry in training camp. Just because he has proven skills does not mean he should stop working hard to improve his game.
What has to excite fans in Indianapolis even more is that Allen came into the league the same year as quarterback Andrew Luck. The two will be able to build quite the relationship over the years that could blossom into one of the top quarterback/tight end combinations in the league. More importantly, it could be exactly what the team needs in order to bring home another Super Bowl.
Obviously, Allen’s rookie season surpassed everyone’s expectations. Now, it is critical that he avoid the sophomore slump and continue to climb the ladder. Hopefully, with the right personnel around him he will have another dominant season.
