The preseason should be a really intriguing spectacle for Philadelphia Eagles fans this season. Not only will Chip Kelly‘s brand new uptempo offense be unveiled but it will give fans the chance to see each quarterback in action in Kelly’s system for the first time.
Michael Vick, Nick Foles, and Matt Barkley all have various skills that Kelly covets, and it will be fascinating to see how each quarterback commands the offense and moves it down field against live defenses.
Barkley is of most intrigue as he was handpicked by Kelly and seems to have as high an upside as any quarterback on the roster. With the success of rookie quarterbacks and his great pedigree starting four years in high school and college I wouldn’t be surprised to see him shine in the preseason and get strong consideration from Kelly for the starting job.
Vick’s physical skills and veteran experience could give him an edge as he knows what to expect out there. Kelly has always had a mobile quarterback at his disposal going back to his college days.
Finally, Foles could be the wild card and may have the best shot at winning the job ultimately. He proved that he can make quick, precise decisions and has looked the most impressive of the lot early in camp.
Preseason is usually an exhibition that most fans can take or leave. For the Eagles this year, however, it will be the first time we as fans get to witness this exciting offense and see how each quarterback can sink or swim under Kelly’s control.
