Will Vonta Leach Sign with New York Giants?

Will Vonta Leach Sign with New York Giants

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

There are several NFL teams interested in Super Bowl winning fullback Vonta Leach. Numerous reports indicated that the Miami Dolphins are the best bet to land him. Meanwhile others believed he would re-sign with the Baltimore Ravens because that is the team that can offer him the most money. With that being said, the New York Giants have a standing offer with Leach, which means they should not be ruled out.

“Still status quo with Giants,” a source with knowledge of Leach’s status told The New York Post. “Wish they had more cap room.”

The Giants will reportedly only be able to offer him a one-year deal worth the veteran’s minimum. Obviously, both parties wish the organization had more cap room, but unfortunately, it is what it is. At this point, Leach wants to sign with a team that will give him a great opportunity to win. More importantly, he wants to be with a team that will utilize his talents to the fullest.

The fact that New York is in need of a talented blocking fullback due to Henry Hynoski suffering a knee injury that required surgery to repair in May means Leach could sign with them. Even if it will not be the most money, the Giants would use him several different ways and appreciate his skills. If New York wanted to make some noise during the 2013 season, acquiring Leach would certainly be a big step in the right direction.

Leach rushed for 32 yards and one touchdown on nine carries in 16 games during the regular season. He also managed to haul in 21 receptions for 143 yards.
