Tennessee Titans fans believe their franchise made one of the more underrated moves of the offseason in signing former New York Jets running back Shonn Greene. Already boasting a former Pro Bowler in Chris Johnson, their back field was bolstered and dare I even say solidified.
Johnson, of course, needs to revert back to form and stay there. He has been too inconsistent over the last two or three years since his 2,000 yard outburst and at times would rush for a pretty pathetic number a few games in a row, followed by a random 150-plus yard performance.
With Greene now in Tennessee, the Titans could take a bit of pressure off of Johnson and use more of a two-back system if they so choose. Johnson will be the man right now and likely will still get the majority of carries, but Greene will be a nice change of pace back off the bench.
At only 5’11” but 226 pounds, Greene is above average in size and is a bit stronger than Johnson, whose main strength is his speed and agility. Watching Greene during training camp should be fun as he finally got himself out of the black hole that was — and still is — the Jets franchise.
Greene is now coming off back-to-back 1,000 yard seasons and has been really one of the only bright spots the Jets saw offensively in recent seasons and should bring a much needed boost to the backfield that didn’t have a whole lot behind Johnson before his arrival.
Look for Greene to feel a bit rejuvenated in camp and get ready for a new opportunity with — shockingly — a better team overall than what he took part in last year.
