Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Jeremy Maclin has yet to have a 1,000 yard season despite his great physical gifts. But he looks poised to break out in Chip Kelly‘s high flying style of offense.
Maclin happens to be in a contract season giving him further motivation to show on the field why he deserves to be paid like a No. 1 wide receiver. Maclin has the change of direction and yards after catch ability to be a real star in Coach Kelly’s offense.
Previously under Andy Reid, DeSean Jackson was the focal point and the man to get the ball to on offense. Now under Coach Kelly the ball should be more evenly spread around which should mean more targets for Maclin, a guy who reminds many of Reggie Wayne in his prime.
I believe this should be a breakout year for Maclin who has always come close but never had that monster season for the Eagles. With defenses focusing on LeSean “Shady” McCoy and Jackson, Maclin could be the beneficiary of single coverage, one on one match ups with corners which he should be able to feast on.
Maclin is accustomed to this type of offense from his days at Missouri where they ran a similar uptempo style. Maclin clearly thrives in this type of offense which showcases his athletic ability and explosive skills in the passing game. Look for Maclin and not Jackson to be the No. 1 wide out in Kelly’s offense and receive a big pay day come next summer.
