Baltimore Ravens TE Dennis Pitta sustained a dislocated hip at Saturday’s practice. At first it was announced by the Ravens that Pitta would only miss week one, but now reports are saying Pitta will miss the entire season. This is a big blow to Joe Flacco and the Ravens’ offensive scheme.
Some Ravens beat writers tweeted that Pitta was heading in for hip surgery tonight. Those reports showed that Pitta’s dislocation is more serious and needed to be attended to right away.

These latest injury developments are bad news for Baltimore. They Ravens were already without departed WR Anqaun Boldin, but now Pitta’s leaves a big void. In his absence, Ed Dickinson is now the top tight end and will need to step up.

Adam Scheftner tweeted that Pitta is expected to be out for the entire year.

Another report by Aaron Wilson doesn’t necessarily rule Pitta out for the year, but the injury news doesn’t look good.

Whether or not Pitta is out for the year, he will be out for more than one game. Flacco and the receiving core will need to work hard in practice and adapt without Pitta’s threat. Ray Rice and Torrey Smith will need to contribute more as well.
Flacco will need to be more accurate in finding his receivers. The 2013 season is looking like a tough one for the Ravens. With Boldin’s departure and Pitta’s looming injury news, the offense can not afford to slack. Unlike last year, the offense will need to contribute and take pressure off a new look defense this season.
In the end, there are still some conflicting reports, but it does not look good for Pitta and the Ravens. Pitta could possibly be sidelined for the entire season.
