The New Orleans Saints are a star-studded team with the likes of Drew Brees, Jimmy Graham, and Darren Sproles, but are there others on the team who are ready to breakout and become a star in their own right? One player that comes to mind is running back Travaris Cadet. Cadet essentially walked on to the team after having strong performances in last season’s preseason games. Cadet played sparingly last season for the Saints. When he did, he showed what he can do, and that is pretty much everything.
On the depth chart, Cadet is listed as the number-four running back behind Sproles, Mark Ingram and Pierre Thomas. With the Saints claiming they want to rededicate themselves to the run, Cadet could actually see a fair amount of time at running back, despite being so low on the totem pole. However, if Cadet cannot crack the rotation as a running back, he could be able to provide some great depth at wide receiver or as a return man.
Due to his versatility, Cadet has the potential to have a breakout season with the Saints, and should anyone go down with an injury Cadet is a great insurance policy. Furthermore, if Cadet can have a strong training camp, the Saints will have no choice but to find some playing for him.
With the departure of Chris Ivory, Cadet will now serve that role as the number-four running back and if given the chance he could help the Saints get back to the playoffs. For now, we will have to see how training camp shakes out, but this season could be a special one for Cadet so make sure you keep an eye out for him in 2013.
