With TE Dennis Pitta sustaining what looks to be a season-ending fractured and dislocated hip, the Baltimore Ravens took a big hit to their passing game. Sunday, the Ravens added much needed depth by adding free agent TE Visanthe Shiancoe.
On Friday, Shiancoe was visiting with the Ravens and attended Sunday’s practice. The team announced via their social media sites that they have signed him to a one-year contract. Others including Aaron Wilson tweeted that the contract is worth a veteran minimum $940,000

After agreeing to a contract, Shiancoe has hit the field for practice wearing No. 81, which was worn by Anquan Boldin last season.
Between WR Torrey Smith, TE Ed Dickson, and Shiancoe, Joe Flacco will have a few threats down field. Last year Shiancoe had a short stint with the New England Patriots, so it will be interesting to see how he plays this season.
While it is unfortunate that Pitta is injured, the Ravens luckily have most of training camp and all of preseason to adjust their strategy. Flacco and Shiancoe will need to develop chemistry.
If Shiancoe works hard in training camp and preseason, then the void left by Pitta’s injury might not be that bad. He brings a veteran presence to a somewhat youthful offensive attack.
