Arizona Cardinals Rumors: Andre Roberts Could Start Over Michael Floyd
With training camp underway, the Arizona Cardinals seem to have a bit more optimism heading into the 2013 season than one may think. Bringing in quarterback Carson Palmer and running back Rashard Mendenhall could prove to be two gigantic moves in regards to offensive improvement.
There’s no doubt the Cardinals have some weapons on offense. Of course Larry Fitzgerald is still one of the best wide receivers in all of the NFL and will continue to be a lethal threat to any defense, especially now with a somewhat formidable quarterback in Palmer.
But, who will rise up and find themselves as the solidified number two option in the passing game? Will it be second year pro Michael Floyd or fourth year pro Andre Roberts?
As a rookie, Floyd caught just 45 passes for 562 yards and only two scores. Although it may be unfair to judge his season too critically because of poor quarterback and offensive line play, Floyd definitely had potential to surpass those stats.
Meanwhile, Roberts has continually improved his numbers through three seasons. In 2012 he caught 64 passes for 759 yards and five touchdowns. Now entering his fourth season, it is safe to assume that if he continues at this rate of improvement he could legitimately pass Floyd on the depth chart.
Roberts has jumped up his total yardage on the season by 200 or more yards in both his second and third season, which in accordance to that trend he may wind up close to 1,000 in 2013.
With a better situation at quarterback, could Roberts enter the season at the number two spot? It’s a fair question, and very well may happen.
