Alex Smith Will Have Big 2013, But Kansas City Chiefs' Coordinator Is an Idiot

Alex Smith as the best quarterback in the NFL

I’ll start by saying this: Alex Smith will have a career year for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2013 of which will be capped of by K.C. making the postseason for the first time since 2010.

However, someone might have put a highly-potent drug in the drink of Chiefs offensive coordinator Doug Pederson. On Thursday, the first-time OC went off of the reservation completely when he offered up the most laughable quote of the entire offseason:

“I think we have the best in the league…Alex has proven he can get it done.”

There you have it folks; a guy who has never thrown more than 20 touchdowns in a regular season is the best signal caller in the NFL. Stop it…I’m the first to defend Smith, yet I would never in my right mind put him ahead of Aaron Rodgers or even Matt Ryan for that matter. This is a classic example of a rookie offensive coordinator jumping the gun and writing a check that he simply can’t cash.

Pederson is currently riding on Andy Reid‘s coattails and as an ex-quarterbacks coach and 10-year NFL veteran Pederson had a rather impressive resume prior to his critique of Smith. Perhaps Pederson was just trying to make a name for himself, but all he did was put more expectations on Smith and totally cluttered the Chiefs’ plate.
Nice going, Mr. Pederson!
