Denver Broncos Rumors: Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie Injury Reason for Worry?
The Denver Broncos are poised for what could be quite a historical season, offensively speaking. But, it could be the defense that carries them over that final hump needed to get to the big stage and win it all this season. During the offseason, Denver brought in veteran cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie to help give them a bit more depth at the position.
Wednesday, though, Rodgers-Cromartie took a step in the wrong direction when he sprained his ankle in practice. The sprain has been classified as a high ankle sprain.
The 27-year old has a history of this type of injury, so it’s tough to gauge the severity of this particular instance.
Head coach John Fox seemed a bit confused on whether or not he was too concerned. “He’s done it before, so I’m not overly (concerned),” Fox told reporters. “But any time you miss time, I’m concerned.”
Well, let’s leave it at that. Fox is concerned nonetheless.
According to Chris Mortensen, there is no timetable set for his return just yet, but Fox hopes he will be ready for week one. Without having much time in training camp, though, how much of a factor will he be with his new team?
The former first round selection out of Tennessee State has 215 career tackles and has posted 16 interceptions in his five year tenure in the NFL. There was concern that he may have lost a step after underperforming with the Philadelphia Eagles most recently, but the Broncos are hopeful that he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
The injury will be monitored from here on out and I’m sure we will provide updates along the way. As for now, Broncos fans, just continue to enjoy the mighty offensive prowess your squad is sure to display come the regular season.
