The Baltimore Ravens’ woes continue with another roster hit.  Ed Dickson has managed to have a slight tear in his hamstring as reported by  With Dennis Pitta out for the year, this is a huge blow to the TE core.

Now come Thursday, Joe Flacco will be without his “Security Blanket”, Pitta, and the former starter Dickson, who is out until Week 1.  Good thing it’s still the preseason; imagine if it weren’t though.  Who would be the guy to step up in the absence of the top two tight ends?  We don’t even know if Visanthe Shiancoe has taken in enough of the playbook to handle a full load as the starting TE.

Billy Bajema is the next man up after Shiancoe; he is possibly even before him, depending on which of the two is more familiar with the plays.  Alex Silvestro and Matt Furstenburg had better find their cleats and give up their towel holding duties because with the way the TEs are holding up, their number will soon be called.  If these three are looking to make the roster, now is the time to step up and make some noise.

We cannot forget about Kyle Juszczyk, who was drafted as kind of a “tweener” this year.  He may be under the tutelage of Vonta Leach, but if he seriously wants to see any playing time, he’ll need to push past the other gentlemen at this position. Juszczyk needs to show John Harbaugh and company that he is up to this daunting task of replacing the injured veterans.

The offense cannot keep taking these casualties and be expected to thrive in 2013, at least not in the TE department.  Baltimore really needs the run-game as well as the receivers to step it up in order to supplement the aforementioned losses.
