It’s often said that the left tackle position is the second-most important spot in the NFL.
Well if that’s the case, the Green Bay Packers are in a heap of trouble as Bryan Bulaga has reportedly torn his ACL and will be lost for the entire season. You may remember Bulaga for making waves earlier this offseason when he and Packers guard Josh Sitton were moved from the right side to the all-important left side.
Luckily, Aaron Rodgers is used to sub-par offensive line play as the three-time All-Pro was sacked 51 times in 2013 which led the league.
Bulaga has been a project for Green Bay since he was drafted in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft. This ACL tear puts him in the official “Draft Bust” category as the Packers just haven’t gotten a lot out of Bulaga. Besides, Green Bay has had a patchwork offensive line for quite some time as Evan Dietrich-Smith is the only Packers lineman who is playing the same position going into 2013 as he did in the 2012 campaign.
As for Bulaga’s future with the Packers? It doesn’t look too good.
In fact, Bulaga is owed over $2.5 million in 2014 — the last year of his deal. Green Bay will more than likely release Bulaga around this time next year to save some cap and just move on from him. Unfortunately, Bulaga’s time in Green Bay was marred by ill-timed injuries and horrid play both by himself and around him. Hopefully this former 23-overall draft pick can find a home with a few established offensive lineman already in place.
