Denver Broncos Rumors: Joel Dreessen Out Until Week 1, Concerns Begin to Loom

The Denver Broncos have a chance to do something special this season on offense. Peyton Manning has plenty of weapons at his disposal and could be in for one of his best seasons yet.

Adding Wes Welker over the offseason gives Manning three solid options at wide receiver as he joins DeMaryius Thomas and Eric Decker. Both Thomas and Welker went over 1,000 yards last year and Welker could make it three 1,000 yard receivers in 2013.

One position that hasn’t necessarily been considered elite, but has been consistent, is the tight end. At the moment, though, the Broncos may be without starting tight end Joel Dreessen until week one of the season — meaning he will miss all of training camp.

Dreessen had his knee operated on for the second time in just a couple of months and now his recovery time has the chance to keep him out for a few weeks, more specifically until the very first week of the season.

Last year, Dreessen caught 41 passes for 356 yards and five touchdowns in his first season with the Broncos. The eight year veteran had been working as the starting tight end during camp so far and now will miss the remainder of the summer practices.

With Dreessen having his second surgery in just as many months, it begs the question as to whether or not he will be able to stay healthy or if his knee will become a problem in the future. If Dreessen cannot keep his knee at 100 percent, Jacob Tamme will likely take on a heftier role.

Head coach John Fox said he will keep everyone updated on Dreessen’s status as soon as they know more, which means we will get you the latest when that happens.
