Seattle Seahawks Training Camp: Newly Signed Receiver Gets an ‘Early’ Exit

What would the sports world be without a good pun?

Probably a lot less cheesy, more enjoyable all around and quite frankly — wait, what am I talking about? Puns are awesome.

Newly signed Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Early Doucet was cut after just one practice Wednesday, and I guess you could call it an ‘early exit’ after being with the team for only five days.

Now that that’s over with, let’s get to the reasoning behind such a bizarre development. Doucet was brought in to help the depth at wideout since Percy Harvin will be out a while and Sidney Rice has had questions regarding his knee.

The former Arizona Cardinals receiver had failed to give the Seahawks a “physical condition tag.” Last year with Arizona, Doucet had issues with a concussion as well as a rib injury.

At first, the signing appeared to be somewhat of a good move, provided he could prove to be healthy. Alas, that was not the case. With Doucet gone, the Seahawks are still thin at the position and counting on rookie wideout Chris Harper to make some noise.

Head coach Pete Carroll has certainly lauded the performance of Harper so far, but according to NFL.com there have been several mixed emotions and impressions around the organization when it comes to the opinion on the fourth-round pick.

It’s tough to see a guy’s career take this type of route, but Doucet looks as though he may be done in the NFL for now. If he can get his health under control and provide legitimate proof of that fact, he’s definitely an asset worth bringing in to compete in any training camp.
