Tampa Bay Buccaneers Receiving Corps Breakdown
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiving corps should certainly be considered above average. Last year Mike Williams and Vincent Jackson together had 135 receptions, over 2,000 yards and 17 touchdowns. These two are an amazing one-two punch on the field as they are both huge vertical threats.
Yes, Williams and Jackson are a great combo and the slot receiver position shouldn’t be a large concern either as Tiquan Underwood and Kevin Ogletree are both very qualified to starters there. Both of these guys have exceptional speed which is much needed for the slot, and Underwood’s best 40 yard dash time was even clocked at 4.31 and Ogletree had a 4.46. Both of these times are amazing and their performance on the field also shows how good they could be. Underwood had his first season with the Buccaneers last year as he had 28 receptions, two touchdowns and over 400 receiving yards. Ogletree is a newcomer to the Buccaneers roster as he was acquired through the free agency this offseason. Last season, Ogletree was with the Dallas Cowboys and had 32 receptions, four touchdowns and over 400 receiving yards. I don’t think that these players are superstar caliber players, but they are pivotal to the success of the offense.
The receiver position seems to be set up all around the field, but I am very concerned with how the tight end position will perform. Luke Stocker is currently the official starter at the position in front of Tom Crabtree. I actually really like Stocker. At 6-foot-5 253 pounds Stocker certainly has body to be a good tight end. Right now, I don’t think Stocker has the receiving skills to be a starter in this league, but on the field experience should improve his receiving game.
