Denver Broncos’ Defense Strong In Preseason Opener

Ed Szczepanski-USA TODAY Sports

The Denver Broncos traveled to the Bay Area to play their first preseason game of the season against the San Francisco 49ers. It wasn’t a very high-scoring game, and that’s not surprising seeing how good these defenses have been, especially last season. Let’s take a look at Game 1 of the preseason for both the Broncos and the Niners.

To start the game off, Denver led QB Colin Kaepernick drive down the field without much force holding back San Fran’s offense, but on a third down play, the Broncos’ defense forced Kaepernick to throw to a receiver before he could reach the first down marker. The 49ers were then forced to kick a field goal, which is definitely a win for the defense.

San Francisco went scoreless the rest of the first quarter, and the second quarter was where Denver really got going. San Francisco had their backs to their endzone and trusted their run game to give them a little more breathing room. Well, LB Nate Irving wasn’t going to let that happen as he popped RB D.J. Harper, forcing the fumble which LB Shaun Phillips then picked up and took it in for a touchdown, the only one of the game.

Safety Rahim Moore also went to pick up a loose ball, after WR A.J. Jenkins caught a pass and didn’t have much control of it. Late in the first half, QB Colt McCoy overthrew Jenkins, and safety Mike Adams easily added his first interception of the year to the stat sheets. CB Kayvon Webster also went on to pick off QB Scott Tolzien.

Denver went on to win the defensive battle and game, 10-6. Denver’s next game will be Saturday, August 17 against San Francisco’s division rival Seattle Seahawks in Seattle at 10 p.m. ET.

Eli Manning Has Interesting Reaction To Broncos' Super Bowl Win

Eli Manning was captured on video making an interesting face when the Denver Broncos cemented their Super Bowl 50 win. The Internet firmly believes Eli is upset that Peyton now has two rings just like he does, but this is simply an overreaction. Eli was clearly nervous throughout the game, and his odd facial expressions are more indicative of a sign of relief than anything else.
