Dallas Cowboys Get Good News with Return of Terrance Williams

Terrance Williams Dallas Cowboys Training Camp 2013

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Dallas Cowboys rookie receiver Terrance Williams is back at practice following his absence due to a concussion.

Williams has not practiced in nine days since suffering the injury on August 2, and his return is great news for the Cowboys.

Williams, the Cowboys’ third round pick this year, will be counted on to provide an added weapon as the team’s No. 3 receiver behind Dez Bryant and Miles Austin. As previously reported early in Cowboys training camp, the biggest thing with Williams  thus far as been his inability to get off of press coverage and get a good start of the line of scrimmage in those first five yards. At 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds, though, he is bigger than most slot receivers, and if he can work at getting off press coverage and getting into his route quicker, he will be that much more of an asset for a Cowboy offense that is already stocked full with talent.

As noted, he did miss the first two preseason games against the Miami Dolphins in the Hall of Fame Game and Friday night against the Oakland Raiders. Those two games, especially the first one when neither Bryant or Austin played, would have been big for Williams to get live reps against NFL competition.

The Cowboys – because they played in the Hall of Fame Game – have three preseason games remaining, against the Arizona Cardinals, Cincinnati Bengals, and Houston Texans.

For Williams, it is good news that he’ll get those three games to get his reps in. And for the Cowboys, the good news is that their rookie wide out is back on the field.
