Baltimore Ravens Rumors: Dennis Pitta To Return in 2013?
A few weeks ago, Baltimore Ravens starting tight end Dennis Pitta suffered what was reported to be a season-ending hip dislocation. But is the door open for Pitta to possibly return in 2013? Yes, it is according to the team’s own website.
“We know it’s a serious injury, but when it came back that there was no ligament and cartilage damage, that maybe gave us some hope” said head coach John Harbaugh.
It’s crazy to think Pitta returning is even possible considering the huge chain reaction of things that happened after the injury. Ed Dickson rose up in the depth chart hoping to be the guy. Visanthe Shiancoe was brought in, then Dickson suffers a slight hamstring tear and is now questionable for the season opener against the Denver Broncos. And only a few days ago, Dallas Clark was brought in as well.
Dickson was looking like he was up to the task of replacing Pitta until his untimely injury. Shiancoe has been pretty hit or miss, and nobody’s really sure what to expect of Clark yet. To say the tight end position is a big question mark right now would be an understatement.
Terrell Suggs tore his ACL early last offseason and he was supposed to miss over half of last season, but came after six games. Ray Lewis was supposedly lost for the season during the Week 6 contest against the Dallas Cowboys, and he came back for the entire playoff run. So who’s to say Pitta can’t come back?
In this situation, the key is to just expect that Pitta is gone for the season. If he come back at any point in any capacity, it will be a huge bonus for the Ravens. I’m getting a crazy feeling that we’ll be seeing no. 88 this season. Just a hunch.
