Devery Henderson Release Draws Interesting Reaction From Fans on Twitter

Devery Henderson

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

Hopefully Devery Henderson lands on his feet somewhere, but some of the tweets following his cut from the Washington Redskins were quite ridiculous. After all, he had only recorded 22 catches in 2012 in what amounted to a phasing out from the New Orleans Saints offense.

The fandom of LSU, where Henderson went to college, along with #HTTR nation rarely fails to generate some emotional response to Redskins news. There were many responses to the statement by the official Redskins Twitter account: “#Redskins announce they have terminated the contract of vested veteran WR Devery Henderson.”

Not to mention that “vested veteran” was an interesting choice of alliteration for announcing that a man has lost his job, but then fans got really wild with it.

“@Redskins Speaking as an LSU fan, NOOOOOOOO! He is one of the best out there!” tweeted @cataloger1. No clear LSU bias here. No, not at all.

@ImNot_A_Star says: “Cold world,” …. I mean, I guess.

Henderson was viewed as mainly a deep threat with the New Orleans Saints but only tallied a single-season high of five touchdowns, back in 2006. His season-long reception each year equaled at least 54 yards each year up until last season, went that figure dropped to 41 yards. Henderson served a deep-threat function and perhaps entering his 10th year he can still deliver that, perhaps to his former team in New Orleans.

Currently on the Redskins depth chart, Dezmon Briscoe, Santana Moss, Pierre Garcon and Josh Morgan were among players sitting ahead of him before the cut.

” So (Dezmon) Briscoe better? oh…” tweeted @_VanillaIsBlack.
