Mike Wallace, Ryan Tannehill Looking for Connection in Preseason Play
Ryan Tannehill has earned the 44th-ranked Pro Football Focus quarterback grade thus far in the 2013 NFL preseason.
This by no means insinuates that Tannehill is the 44th-best quarterback or that he’s played worse than 43 other quarterbacks, especially when considering how many of those ahead of him were helped by playing lesser competition, second- and third-teamers, etc. Then there’s the fact that playing in the Hall of Fame game, well before any other offense had to trot out on the field, was much poorer than Tannehill’s encouraging performance in Week 2 of the preseason against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
However, Tannehill does by that metic rank well behind other young projected starters such as EJ Manuel and Brandon Weeden. Tannehill will attempt to follow up those strong acts this week as the Miami Dolphins face the Houston Texans in preseason action at 8 p.m. ET.
Mega-contract addition Mike Wallace missed the preseason opener and didn’t receive even a target form Tannehill in Week 2. Dolphins fans will hope for some semblance of chemistry between the two Saturday night, instead of reasons why the two didn’t connect like after the Jags game.
“There was one where we came out and started a drive with a play,” said Tannehill, via the team website. “I ended up moving around and hitting (Brandon) Gibson over the middle, but going back and looking at it I could have stayed in the pocked a little bit, just pushed up and kept my eyes downfield. Mike ended up winning on the outside. Other than that, that’s kind of the way the game fell.”
