Atlanta Falcons: Starters Will Bring It When It Counts
Though the Atlanta Falcons have lost the first two games of the preseason, all signs are pointing to another winning regular season. The starters are gelling quite nicely, as a matter of fact. This past Thursday, the Falcons were up 20-7 on the Baltimore Ravens when the starters were in.
WR Julio Jones was back from his hamstring issues and delivered splendidly, as usual…and as expected. Though the other half of the WR tandem-extraordinaire Roddy White suffered a minor ankle sprain, he came through solidly while on the field. While it’s possible that White will sit out the remainder of the preseason, his winning ways should continue throughout the regular season…and beyond.
Backup QB Dominique Davis has certainly turned his game around from preseason week 1 to week 2. Right tackle Lamar Holmes is looking better. Not fantastic, but better…definitely a step up from his first week that was all but complete with the ‘deer in the headlights’ look. Rookie linebacker Paul Worrilow continues to impress, to the surprise of no one.
There are still issues, of course. Right guard Garrett Reynolds hasn’t quite stepped up the way the team needs him to. On the plus side, Harland Gunn looks to be more than ready to step up and in with a strong delivery.
The next game against the Tennessee Titans is even more highly anticipated, with the return of tight end Tony Gonzalez to the playing field. This game will see the most starter play of the preseason, and should be a true precursor to what we can expect to see in the upcoming season.
Rise up, indeed.
