One of the biggest positional battles to watch Saturday night when the Indianapolis Colts host the Cleveland Browns in the final home preseason game is the running back position. The top-three spots are likely set with Vick Ballard being the starter and Ahmad Bradshaw backing him up. The third spot would go to Kerwynn Williams, who will likely be the fourth back on the depth chart, but making his impact on the team in the return game.
The third spot and last guy to likely make this team at the position is going to come down to Donald Brown or Delone Carter. The duo are going head to head to make the final spot as it’s not likely they keep five running backs on the roster.
So far in this preseason, Carter has 27 yards on 10 rushes while Brown has 31 yards on nine carries. Ultimately, it’s up to what these guys can do Saturday night in the game to see who makes the final cut.
The Colts need to trim their roster down on Sunday, then do the final cuts next weekend. I suspect they will keep all five guys on the roster going into the preseason finale and let the duo battle it out. The question is, who can separate themselves in this last game?
As of now, I’d say Brown has the slight lead in the race as Carter isn’t quite getting the job done. It’s going to be fun to watch, though, as one of these guys will be going home next weekend.
