From here on out, anything related to former NFL tight end Aaron Hernandez will be all over the news. On Thursday, Hernandez was formally indicted on charges of first-degree murder in the death of Odin Lloyd. He entered a plea of not guilty.

By now we all know the chilling details of what allegedly happened on the night of June 17th. Hernandez, along with two other friends, reportedly traveled to a North Attleboro, MA industrial park where they shot and killed Lloyd. The former TE is rumored to have also been the gunman, in what essentially seems like a hit.

While the exact details remain unknown, it’s thought that Hernandez was mad at Lloyd for either talking with people he didn’t like or that he had information that linked him to another murder. It’s still unclear what the potential motives may have been. Either way, all the evidence we know about so far, points to Hernandez having direct knowledge of what happened to Lloyd on that summer night in June.

Some have speculated that this could turn into another O.J. Simpson-like trial, one that would gain a ton of national exposure. I do get the comparison, because they’re both NFL players charged with murder, but these are two completely different cases. O.J. was a high-profile national star on trial for allegedly killing his ex-wife and her new friend. Hernandez is involved in what seems to be a thug-like hit on a former friend. While the TE was popular, he was nowhere near the level of O.J. Simpson.

On top of that, I think there’s way less of a chance this trial drags on or that it ever gets as much coverage as the Simpson trial did. The evidence seems pretty damning against Hernandez, but hey, stranger things have happened. But no matter your opinion on his guilt, we should all be able to agree that he deserves his day in court, because he’s an American.
