Baltimore Ravens’ Marlon Brown Answers Receiver Question with Performance

Evan Habeeb-USA TODAY Sports

Two weeks ago, no one outside of Baltimore knew the name Marlon Brown. Tonight, the Baltimore Ravens’ rookie receiver made the message clear that he is here to compete. With four catches for 59 yards and a touchdown from Joe Flacco, the 6-foot-5 standout player from Georgia will not be denied a roster spot.

Normally, the Baltimore Ravens go into the season with six receivers; Brown is forcing their hand to make room for a seventh. He may even push a veteran off of the 53-man roster with his practice play and his performance tonight.

Brown has crisp-route running ability and comes in and out of his breaks with ease. Although he played most of the night on the outside, his touchdown tonight came while he was playing in the slot. Brown used his 6-foot-5 frame and broad shoulders to get inside on the defender on a post route to snag the 24-yard grab around the seven-yard line and finished for six.

After being rewarded first team practice reps due to his performance with the third string during live action against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Atlanta Falcons, Brown has shown that he can hold his own in live game action. John Harbaugh’s due diligence paid off. Harbaugh mentioned last week that he would do his job and evaluate each position and Ravens Nation has to be pretty excited he did.

As long as Brown can keep stacking good plays up, he’ll make the roster for sure. The Ravens have reason to finally be excited about their receiving core without mentioning Torrey Smith. Stay tuned for more of this beastly receiver in the preseason finale against the Saint Louis Rams.
