Philadelphia Eagles Make Useful Trade

As the preseason begins to wind down, teams around the league will begin the search to fill gaps in their roster, replace openings that have been created by injury, and pick up players released by other teams that fit their system. The Philadelphia Eagles made a useful move, acquiring linebacker Adrian Robinson from the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for running back Felix Jones. The deal makes sense for both teams, but for the Eagles it was a no brainer in the fact that they get a useful piece to add to a developing defense, while giving up a player that probably wasn’t going to make the team anyway.

The trade for Pittsburgh occurred mainly to fill the opening created with the loss of rookie running back Le’Veon Bell to a foot sprain, putting him on the shelf for six to eight weeks. Jones will give the Steelers another option, while he probably would have been cut by the Eagles in the coming week. He had dropped to fourth on the running back chart in Philadelphia behind starter LeSean McCoy, Chris Polk and Bryce Brown.

The Eagles added another player to their defensive front seven. Robinson, a Temple graduate, comes with knowledge as a linebacker in the 3-4 defense, but has the ability to play defensive end where he spent his time during college. He played in 12 games as a rookie last season for the Steelers on special teams. He will be a welcome addition to both the special teams and defense for the Eagles, where he provides depth, another option with some experience and intensity. With the most recent injury in Philadelphia to Philip Hunt, Robinson provides another capable body to rush the quarterback, a trait he was recognized for in college. In a return to the city, Robinson is given the opportunity of a start with a young defense, in a system he is already familiar with.
